A warm-blooded alto sax sound comes from Christophe Monniot’s lips. His adventurous duo with accordionist Didier Ithursarry leads us through unknown landscapes. Monniot performed at the very first Prologue at the Groninger Museum with the energetic power trio La Campagnie des Musiques à Ouïr in 2001. His duo with the inventive Ithusarry takes its inspiration elsewhere. The duo released two albums (Hymnes À L’amour 2018 and Hymnes À L’amour, deuxieme chance 2020). Here we are presented with ingenious vistas that only Frenchmen can ever dream up together.
The third time is the charm. Guitarist Christian Kühn’s band first performed as a refreshing young local quartet at the 2015 ZJFT. Four years later, the combination with tenorist John Dikeman’s huge sound raised the roof with their performance at the Prologue in Groningen’s Vera: Kuhn Fu versus Dikeman. Now we have to face up to Kuhn Fu Special. Heavyweights like Frank Gratkowski and Tobias Delius will join the band on this occasion, providing a five piece horn section. Music provider Christian Kühn has written special new material for this line-up. Could be worse.
